Should I enroll my children in Piano Lessons?
As the mother of two kids, I spend months looking forward to summer vacation. I visualize unstructured time with the kids….going to the lake, catching fireflies, making pancakes from scratch, weekly trips to the library to linger, and finding a chapter book to read aloud. However, no sooner do the kids get out of school and the back to school ads come out. I panic- What! I haven’t even hardly begun my list of things I want to do with the summertime and now I have to go school shopping! Yes, summer goes by in a blink. We are now a few short weeks away from the school year ( yes, I did get the school shopping done already) So naturally we all start thinking about structuring the school schedule and trying to decide if and what after school activities they will participate in. The time after school is precious and short. When the kids hit the house, instead of sitting down for a snack and chatting together, I often find myself hurrying them into the car for the next ortho appointment (both kids are in braces). With so many appointments, homework, and everything else essential to fit in like dinner, I have often asked myself, can we let something go? Can we simplify our schedules and reduce our expenses? Is it really necessary for the kids to learn the piano?
Well, there is no getting around the fact that it is very important for kids to learn how to read music and play an instrument. As parents we make time and funds available for necessary activities and appointments that benefit our kids, and making time for piano lessons does them a world of good. The good news is that while giving your child the opportunity to play the piano involves time and expense, it is truly enjoyable to watch your child learn to play and gain confidence at the piano. Below are just a few of the many benefits, but if you spend just a little time researching this you will find mountains of information on the subject.
